Hi I'm Gaby, Dresser, Maker, Assistant and general mess maker for @HandSewnByGabriella. Before Covid, I worked on shows such as Hamilton, The Play That Goes Wrong, War Horse, Shrek, etc...as well as acting as a Freelance Seamstress and Buyer for shows and Supervisors (Six, The Woman in Black, The Guardian, etc).
I've always kept myself very busy and I was working hard to progress to a permanent Wardrobe Assistant level. So, as you can imagine, when Covid hit I needed to dive into something. At first I made my way through completing all my half started projects I had tucked away, but then I started to play around with millinery again after hiding all my equipment away for 5 years.
I started playing with fabric manipulation, wool and linen and experimenting with my love for simplistic and subtle designs rather than feathers and "height" that you usually see in the shops.
Over a few weeks and 9 Cocktail Caps later, I progressed to creating 100% wool Neck wraps and Newsboy hats for the Autumn season as I began to question what other ways could you style yourself for an Autumn or Winter Occasion...we all have an abundance of ideas and colours we like to use for a summer Wedding, Christening or The Races, but what about November...or even March? I wanted to create items that you could dress up or down, use as an alternative - to a pashmina or scarf - or even just use when going for a windy ramble in the countryside. Something that's versatile yet also a statement piece.
All my items are unisex and handmade by me, and also completely limited edition. I hope what I've tried to create is to peoples tastes, I also take on commissions.
